Application Form

If you are interested in adopting a Spanish dog, the first step is to thoroughly fill out an application form here. Please let us know in the form if you’re interested in a dog in particular. While we review your application and references, we invite you to join our facebook group where you will find tons of informations as well as testimonials. If you have any question regarding the adoption process, please contact us by email or Messenger.

Phone Interview

This is when we can answer all your questions and talk about the breed’s needs. We want to know as much as possible about you; your lifestyle, your routine, your energy level and everybody in your household, including others dogs and cats. The match making is one of the most crucial aspect for us. We will suggest dogs from Spain that will be a great match for your family’s needs and preferences, as well as the dog’s. We are also available to correspond with you on messenger and we even encourage it because it allows us to know you even better, share pictures of available dogs and answer quickly all interrogations that might come up during the process.

Home Visit

The home check is the last step before we authorize the adoption of a Spanish dog. We will come accompanied by one of our galgo, podenco or mastin. We will discuss mostly security and health details. We take our time to review everything you need to know to be ready before your dog arrives. We can also make suggestions to improve the environnement for your dog’s safety and well being. If possible, we ask that all members of your household are present during the visit (people, dogs, cats and other animals). Again, it will also allow us to make the best match possible for your family and the dog. At last, we will review with you the adoption contract, the Gepetto’s Law and answer all question you may have.

Your dog will embark on his flight to freedom as soon as he’s ready and we have a spot for him on a plane. He will travel with 3 other dogs and one of our flight patron. The journey is safe, but long; your dogs will stay up to 10 hours in a travel crate. Before he arrives, you will receive all the informations you need to know to be ready for that very special day. We ask that you bring two soft leaches, treats and water. If your dog arrives in winter, you will also need a coat. At Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau Airport, families wait at the international arrivals with a committee of volunteers, all ready to welcome the precious dogs into their new life.

Transport and Arrival

The journey doesn’t stop there, it starts! When you adopt a dog with EGP, you become part of our extraordinary family. We will be there for you and your dog for all his life. We also encourage our adoptees to be active on our facebook group to give us news and share your story. For the people who rescued your dog in Spain, knowing that he is well and happy is the biggest and only reward there is. When you adopt a Spanish dog, you also become an ambassadeur of the cause and you can inspire other families to adopt and save more lives.
